Auskick Season Launch 2012

Hello all,
It is my pleasure to invite you all to the inaugural 2012 Auskick Season Launch, which will be held at Bus Loop Oval, (Opposite SCG) Driver Ave. Moore Park on Saturday, 25th of February from 1-3pm (see flyer attached).
The Auskick Season Launch is designed to kick off the 2012 Auskick Season with a bang, encourage any 2011 Auskickers who haven’t re-registered in 2012 to do so and most importantly, to encourage 2011 Auskickers to bring along a friend and encourage them to register. The idea behind the day is that it will have a real carnival atmosphere, with some clinics, some activities, a fun zone and information for parents of potential Auskickers....more

Newtown Swans players makes the big time

It is official...Newtown has it's first player signed up with the AFL....MORE. Former Newtown junior, Richard Newell, who had a scholarship with the Brisbane Lions and played Brisbane Reserves in 2011, has now won a contract with them for season 2012. Richard is the first Newtown junior to win an AFL contract with an AFL senior team. Richard is now on the Brisbane Rookie List. Each AFL club has 40 players on their list with an additional 6 players on their Rookie List that can play for them during a season. It is another step up the ladder of progress for Richard.Let’s hope he continues to improve and impress & the opportunity comes his way to play his first AFL senior game in the next season or two.Well done, Richard and the Newell family! And congratulations, Newtown!Richard was kind enough to come down from Brisbane and be our guest speaker at our U16s Farewell dinner on 17 September at the Sydney University Grandstand function Centre. Thanks again, Richard.
Cheers,
Steve Black
Club President

5 Newtown heroes play there last game

In 2001, a group of five and six year old boys started playing footy together at Alan Davisdon Oval .This Sunday August 7 at 11AM at ADO after eleven seasons and more than 150 games including three Grand Finals, these same players, the core group of the older age Newtown Swans U16s, are playing their last game together at Newtown. These are the only players to have played this long at Newtown, having played their entire Auskick, junior and youth AFL career at the club.... To see who they are

Two Newtown players find success

Under 16s midlfielder Sam Lonergan-Stewart was awarded the runner up Fairest and Best in the Regional awards last week. This was an especially brilliant effort as Sam played only 7 games due to his regular commitmments with the Sydney University Under 18s

Former Newtown Swans player Kuiam Anu has been selected for the NSW?ACT Indigenous Australian Football Team. Congratulations Kuiam from the Newtown Swans. Read more here

AFL sends a reminder after Roos incident

To all Clubs, Regional Committees, Board Members and Regional Managers. Now that a little time has passed, it is timely to reflect on some issues that have arisen out of recent well publicised events within the GSJ. Rule 14.1 of the GSJ Rules and By-laws provides that only Players, Umpires, trainers, first aid attendants and runners are permitted on the field (except for those that are provided for under the Development Rules). The rule is clear, unequivocal and will be enforced.    READ MORE

A brief history

The Newtown Angels formed in 1903 and upto 1986 would see good crowds at their home ground, Erskineville Oval.  The Club folded in 1986 and was reformed in 1999 as a junior football club [NSJFC] in honour of the Newtown Football Club. The Newtown Swans Football Club has since gone from strength to strength and is now in it's 11th year with 222 playing members. The Club has seen membership increase each and every year with an increase of 158% in the last 4 years. Just have a look at these amazing old photographs to see how good this club really was...Photo Gallery 1
Here are some highlights:
AFL Greater Sydney Juniors - Sydney Harbour Best Club Award -  2010
AFL Greater Sydney Juniors - Sydney Harbour - Inner City Premierships -
2008 (Under 10) 2010 (Under 12)
AFL Greater Sydney Juniors - Sydney Harbour - Best Team Award - 2010 (Under

Newtown FC - the Newtown Blood Stained Angels - established 1903 - folded
1986 Senior Sydney AFL Premierships - 1906, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1932, 1933, 1936,
1939, 1940, 1942, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1967, 1968, 1970
Yes that is 19 Premierships by our founding Club!
However, the 19 Senior Premierships won by Newtown FC between 1903 and 1970 does not tell the whole story of the club’s dominance of Sydney Footy.

In terms of Premierships and Finals appearances (a final four operated) the record of the club from 1903-1986 is truly staggering, Newtown first made the finals in 1905 finishing third and they last made the finals in 1981 losing in the Grand Final to East Sydney – the other giant of Sydney Footy.
In total the finals record of the club was:
Premierships – 19
Runners up – 19
Third – 21
Fourth – 8
Or to put it another way … 67 finals appearances in 84 years!!!!
