REGISTRATION
Many players are still to register.
This is important for ensuring insurance purposes and team
communication. Registration for
this season has been frozen at last year’s rate of $120 per child ($10 discount
for each subsequent child registered at the same time). This includes all playing costs and
uniform (exc. boots and mouthguards)
You can register in person (only cash or cheque payments)
at training. Please see registrar
Anita O’Connell.
UNIFORMS & BACKPACKS
This year we are going green!Where possible we would ask you to “recycle” your shorts and
socks from last season.Replacements for socks and shorts worn out, lost or too small will be
available, as well as for new players (or those just wishing to have a new
uniform) however we would ask you to consider “recycling” current uniforms
where possible, as each year we end up with a large number of discarded items
that are generally in good condition.Items that are too small can also be brought back to “recycle” and be
used by younger players.
Backpacks supplied by the AFL are available for all
players in the Auskick program (Under 5 - under 8). These will be available at training to registered players at
training on Wednesday 31 March and Wednesday 14 April. In the first instance please contact your team manager if
you have any questions, or call the club phone (0428 425 905).

and 10’s Coordinator

PLAYING FOR YOUR CLUB [by a longtime club stalwart]
A few weeks ago our first ever U16s team met at ADO for their first
official training session under new coach Will Ley
The core playing group in the U16s all joined the club in 2001 as 5 and 6 year
old Auskickers.
These young blokes have come a long way and some have racked up close
to 150 games playing in the Red & White for Newtown.
They’ve played on perfect, windless, cloudless days and they’ve played in
driving rain and mud at night make-up games. They’ve won games by a solitary point, and lost by the barest of margins as well.
They’ve dealt out merciless floggings to opposition teams, and been on the receiving end of some too. They’ve shed tears after their three losing Grand Final appearances, and felt the joy and exhilaration of more than few come-from-behind last quarter, last gasp wins.
They’ve got lost looking for obscure opposition home grounds all over Sydney and never felt more secure playing their own home games at ADO.
They’ve eaten the best and worst barbequed sausages this city has to offer, and enough quarter time oranges to keep the citrus industry going.
They’ve thrown hissy fits when a contentious umpires decision didn’t go their way, and burst out laughing when an unwarranted free kick ten metres out right in front
came their way.
They’ve dropped sitters in the goal square, and five minutes later delivered low, raking, 30 metre passes lace-out to a leading forward. They’ve handpassed straight to the opposition full forward, but minutes later scooped up a smothered opposition kick and snapped a six pointer.
But through thick and thin, their love of playing the greatest game of all with
their longtime teammates and friends keeps them coming back for more...
See all the dates on our Google Calendar - Click here WELCOME! We encourage returning players to wear their Newtown Club T-shirts or Red and White to these events.
DON’T FORGET!
Recycle
last year’s Footie Boots… Last year our recycling program for footie
boots was a huge hit with families. Some swapped boots a couple of
times during the season as kids hit their growth spurts. It’s a great
help and a sensible thing to do to help with the spiraling cost of
outfitting our kids for their various interests as they develop. Please
bring any serviceable boots along to any of the
pre-season training/registration events. If you are donating boots you
are welcome to simply swap for another pair or if you are not swapping
the cost is just $5. Of course, this only works if we have generous
families willing to donate pre-loved boots and it is very much on a
first-in-best-dressed basis…
Talking
about best dressed… We don’t want to be caught short! This year we
would also like to ask that you donate any serviceable footie shorts
and socks to a pool which we will keep in reserve for “emergencies”. Of
course we are ordering new socks and shorts as always for the kids but
we want to have a stock in case we have a big intake of players late in
the season as we did last year for the Auskick teams. Again, please
feel free to bring these along to any registration event or any
training or game day throughout the season.

A message from the President.... I
believe it is timely for all those associated with the Newtown Club -
Players, Parents, Coaches, Team Managers and Club Officials - to
familiarise themselves with the AFL Code of Conduct. [Click here to download the Word doc.] Please read it carefully as it applies to you and everyone associated with the Club. Parents please go through this policy with your child. more...
The Newtown Football Club reinforces & supports the AFL SCJ’s stated policy of ‘zero tolerance of umpire abuse & intimidation’ & all participants, whether on field or off, are reminded that they are bound by relevant codes of conduct. Penalties can & will be imposed upon anyone found guilty of a conduct breach. Note also that zero means zero & that there is no scale of seriousness.
For coaches & managers: The correct process in questioning issues relating to "Game Conduct" is through the ground manager. It is then at the ground managers discretion whether he/she brings the issue to the umpires attention during a 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 time break. The correct process in relation to an umpire's performance or rule interpretation is through the umpire review form. This will be reviewed by the Umpire Coordinator, and is your opportunity to assist in the development of umpires.
For parents & caregivers who may have concerns, raise these with your respective team manager at an appropriate time. Do not resort to taking matters into your own hands as this is contrary to the spirit in which our games are played.
There is a large amount of unclaimed property at the Club. The next Home game will see the LP Bin dragged out for all to have a chance to reclaim their wares. Grab it now or it's off to St Vinnies.
FIRST AID
Following
a review of the Club’s risk management plan we are looking to formalise
first aid arrangements for our home games. It is proposed that each
team supply a few volunteers that would be available as first aid
officers at their respective team’s playing times. On game days at ADO
first aid officers will be identifiable so that they can be called upon
to assist if required. If you are
available to provide this support at home games please pass along your
details (name, team and availability) through your team manager so that
a roster can be established.
We
currently have a number of health professionals and St John’s certified
first-aiders who already provide this service. We thank you and ask
that you confirm your details with your team managers for inclusion on
the roster. In addition the Club will support those willing to obtain a
first aid certificate and volunteer to provide this important Club
service by paying for the course.
2010 PARENTS; IF YOU WANT TO HELP IN ANY WAY PLEASE APPROACH A COACH, TEAM MANAGER , the PRESIDENT OR ANY OTHER OFFICIAL AND PUT YOUR NAME DOWN TO VOLUNTEER.
To learn more about AFL and the Auskick programme -Click here
It is incumbent on me to remind all coaches, managers, players & parents that under no circumstances are they to approach any field umpire prior to, during or at the completion of any football match. It is strictly forbidden under the rules of Australian Football & is contrary to the spirit in which our game is played.
Further to this, the Football Department of the NJAFC also requests that parents & spectators refrain from approaching coaches & players during the course of a match. Coaching even at this junior level can sometimes be a stressful & frustrating job. Decisions need to be made quickly & coaches require the full attention of all players during breaks in play.
If parents have any queries regarding any aspect of the game or match day procedure they should be directed to the team manager or to me via the club secretary, Margie Dyson.
A players & parents code of conduct is attached for your information. There is also one for coaches.
Coaches Kind regards, Chris Venville Football Manager
Want to discuss a coaching decision? In the first instance, please talk to our Football Manager, Chris Venville, either at the ground, or at a later time by email. If you wish to make further enquiries, contact a committee member, who will raise your concerns at the next committee meeting. You can attend a committee meeting in person or leave a message – ph. 0428 425 905.
Want to discuss an Umpiring decision? Never approach an umpire to question his or her decision. Talk to our Football Manager, Chris Venville, either at the ground, or at a later time by email. Bona fide queries will be taken up with the Association. Remember respect the Umpires decisions - they are part of the game and in most cases teenagers learning this important role. You are a proud NJAFC member who conducts yourself in a manner respectful of the umpires, players and other clubs.
Other queries can be directed to the club via committee members or meetings, email or telephone - 0428 425 905.
