Match Report 26th May 2007 U/11 vs. Glebe
Back to ADO this weekend after a scintillating match against Maroubra last Saturday. The
team looked focussed and ready to play during the warm ups and for once
listened to the coach’s pep talk without too many wise cracks.
The
Swans started well and had a couple of goals on the board before Glebe
were aware that the game had begun. It was clear that Orson had come to play and his hunger for the ball was infectious and the team started to back him. Vivek won the ball in the ruck and alternated really well with the big leaping Orson. Meanwhile Kwian was turning back any Glebe attacking moves from centre half back.
The team were really starting to gel as a unit and supporting one another in general play. Harry Lalor, playing up from the nines, bagged himself three goals. Luke took a screamer in the forward line and potted a nice goal and Leo bagged a nice long range set shot.
While
the forward and mid field were covering themselves in glory, the back
line gelled together really well, supporting each other and turning
back many Glebe attacking moves. Great work from Bruno and Jacob and Kwian pulling down their long range shots. Peter did some gutsy close to the ground stuff.
Orson had a blinder bagging six goals for the day. Louie, also playing up from the nines, delivered the ball into the forward line with great accuracy.
Glebe
were never allowed to get into the game and with an all round fantastic
team effort the Swans ran out comfortable winners by our biggest margin
this year.

Match Report 28th April 2007 When Swans turned to Mudlarks...
The
Under 11's did the club proud today. They scratched out a magnificent
1 POINT win over Easts. It was a brilliant day for footy. Rain had made
the ADO ground damp but the conditions were cool and there was brilliant
footy on display as a result. The players were so excited with the win that they
penguin dived the length of the centre area and were soon totally
covered in thick black mud. Vivek [pictured below] said to me " I've never had so much
fun in my whole life- we got mud in our hair, in our ears and my boots
are full too"
With
Aussie Rules having such a huge history of
rained soaked matches it was very pleasing to see the children finally
experience the joy of 'playing in a puddle' and hearing the 'thwack' of
wet leather. [apologies from the players to the washers of jumpers +
boots...]

LUCKY WIN AGAINST MAROUBRA
There
was always the danger of complacency in this game with the kids knowing
that Maroubra were on the bottom of the ladder. Just keep in mind we
are second lowest.
We
had some great passages of play at various moments. I gave a rousing
endorsement of that to the group, which apparently lulled them into a
sleepy state to which we nearly gave the game away. We need to ensure
that we keep applying the pressure and mounting the tempo throughout
the game.
This passage was initiated by James, onto Sam,
which culminated in a game and a lot of bewildered faces on Maroubra’s
side. In this we saw all the elements of good football: team play,
unselfish play, shepherding and on field communication and finally a
skillful disposal.
We
are trying to give and make our more experienced players take more
responsibility. I am still using an incentive captaincy but hope to
formalize a single or triple captain (similar to Sydney Swans) before
the midpoint of the season. We want to see the players stand up for the
responsibility and learn some leadership characteristics, which then
get applied on the field. Captains this week were Milan and Rhys as vice. Hugo has been elected Huddle policeman and protocol manager.
Some of the new players, Cameron, Marlena and Ruby are starting to find some confidence and contributing to the game. Remember that Thomas, Lachlan and Jacob C. all started only last year and are now clearly some of our most inspiring players.
Congratulations
to those of you who played up in the 12’s. I recommend that as many of
you do it as much as you can, or your parents allow. It will provide a
higher benchmark for you and will make playing the 11’s seem more at
ease.
Scores were Newtown 3 – 8 - 26 defeated Maroubra 3 – 1 - 19
Next week is Wests at Picken. We all need to start preparing for this and training hard. See you Monday and Wednesday evening
Well done Coach Trevor
